The idea from these spirals come from the native land of the designer in Sarawak. And apparently, the spirals is good for feng shui.
This motif is very contemporary and although it uses a known spiral, but it’s very new to batik drawing. In addition, the designer has good placements of the spirals.
And finally, the best part, is how well drawn the spiral is. It’s not easy to hand draw a beautifully shaped spiral, but the artisan has done it very well.
This batik picture is chosen as the back cover of the Batik Inspirations book: International Edition for its vibrant red, and to show that batik need not be traditional, but contemporary.
